Bombay Gothic, by Christopher W. London, is a lavishly illustrated book of the Gothic architecture found in an enigmatic city called Bombay.
Summary of the Book
The Gothic Revival style of architecture was creatively adapted to local conditions in Bombay in the 19th century. Renowned architects and theorists helped the then Governor Frere in realizing the man’s vision for Bombay as India’s first city. In Bombay Gothic, Christopher traces the evolution of the city’s distinctive architectural style, along with colour photographs, rare archival material and drawing realistic visual comparisons with contemporary and medieval European styles of architecture.
